Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 2, 2026 Last Updated: April 2, 2026

Short version: Terre Haute Help is a read-only resource directory. We do not collect your name, email, location, or any personal information. The only data our server automatically records is standard technical log data (IP addresses, timestamps, page requests) used solely for security and site operation. No tracking, no ads, no data sales — ever.

1. Introduction and Scope

This Privacy Policy governs the data practices of Terre Haute Help, the website located at https://terrehautehelp.org (the "Site"). The Site is a free, purely informational public directory of local community resources for residents of Terre Haute and Vigo County, Indiana. It is operated as a volunteer initiative by Robert Casey.

We are committed to the highest standards of privacy protection and transparency. Because the Site is intentionally designed as a resource-only platform with no interactive features, no user accounts, and no mechanisms for visitors to submit any information, our data practices are extremely limited. This Policy explains exactly what occurs — and what does not occur — when you visit the Site.

By accessing or using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described herein.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, process, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) from visitors. Specifically:

  • The Site contains no forms, contact fields, sign-up options, accounts, newsletters, donation buttons, comment sections, or any other user-input mechanisms.
  • No visitor is ever required or invited to provide a name, email address, phone number, physical address, financial information, or any other personal details.
  • We do not use any third-party services that could collect visitor data — no analytics platforms, no advertising networks, no social media widgets, and no embedded scripts from external domains.
  • The Site includes a client-side search feature that operates entirely within your browser and transmits no data to any server.

3. Server Log Data

Like every website hosted on a web server, the Site automatically generates and temporarily records standard server access logs for each HTTP/HTTPS request. These logs are created solely by the normal operation of the web server software and may include:

  • The visitor's IP address
  • The date and time of the request
  • The specific URL or resource requested
  • The HTTP method used (GET, HEAD, etc.) and the status code returned
  • The referring URL, if any
  • The user-agent string identifying the browser type and operating system

These logs are retained exclusively to ensure the technical operation and security of the Site, to detect and prevent abuse or security threats, and to produce anonymous, aggregated usage statistics that do not identify any individual visitor.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose these logs to any third parties for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose. Logs are retained for between 30 and 90 days and then purged, unless a longer period is required by applicable law or for a legitimate security investigation.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Site does not use, set, or transmit any cookies, web beacons, tracking pixels, local storage objects, fingerprinting techniques, or any other client-side tracking or identification technologies.

No third-party scripts, analytics code, or external resources that could track visitors are loaded. All content is served directly from our own server with no external dependencies beyond the Google Fonts stylesheet used for typography, which is loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log this font request according to their own privacy policy, which we do not control.

5. Third-Party Links and External Resources

The Site consists primarily of curated links to independent third-party organizations, government agencies, hotlines, and public services. When you click any such link, you leave Terre Haute Help entirely and become subject to the privacy policies, data practices, and terms of the external website or organization.

We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy practices, or data collection activities of any third-party site. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of each external resource before providing any information to it.

6. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) to the extent it applies to a purely informational, non-interactive directory.

Although the Site is not subject to CCPA, GDPR, or similar state privacy laws in a way that triggers formal obligations — due to the complete absence of personal data collection — we have voluntarily adopted practices that exceed the transparency and data minimization requirements of those frameworks.

7. Data Security

We maintain the server hosting the Site in accordance with current industry-standard security practices for static informational websites, including regular security patching, firewall protection, and secure server configuration. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of the limited server log data described in Section 3.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

All server log data is retained only for the minimum period necessary and is deleted on a rolling basis. We do not maintain any permanent database of visitor information. Upon a valid legal request from a duly authorized law-enforcement or regulatory authority, we will cooperate as required by applicable Indiana or federal law.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Your continued use of the Site after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.

10. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana and applicable federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

11. Contact
